In the present era, we have various NGOs all over the world working towards a good cause and most of these NGOs require funding to achieve their goals. These NGOs normally look for individuals in the community along with international and local organizations to support their mission. Similarly, youth-led NGOs need to develop positive, long term relationships with the members of the community along with international and local organizations. Hence, it is pivotal for a youth-led NGO to be clear about its objectives and be transparent in their operations in order to build a good reputation.

  • Develop local networks

It’s important to connect with those individuals and organizations who share the NGO’s common interests and goals. You might research on what similar organizations have done in the past to raise funds to have a clear idea. Most organizations allocate funds for their corporate social responsibility program and collaborate with an NGO and hence, it’s important to be connected with the organizations.

  • Seek Grants

Search for organizations who provide grants or who have the history of providing grants to NGOs. There are grants available both locally and internationally and all the rules and application guidelines have to be followed while applying.

  • Brand Yourself

Branding is pivotal for any successful organization and similarly with youth-led NGOs; it is going to help them connect with people. It’s important to set yourself apart from others and have a unique selling point. Be creative in how you market yourself, how you promote your activities and always highlight the people who are working for you. Brand yourself in such a way that people would actually want to work with you. Make your presence felt. This would help to create a positive word of mouth.

  • State clear objectives

It’s important to clearly specify what the funds raised will be use for. Do mention the cost of the entire project and also mention the break-down of all the costs.

  • Funds Transparency

Transparency is the key. Donors would want to know where their money was spent. Prepare a detailed financial statement, clearly defining where each and every penny was spent. Donors appreciate that and it helps to build credibility.

  • Thank your donors

Don’t forget to thank all your donors be it individuals or organizations. Thank them through print media, social media, phone calls and in any other way. Keep them updated with your progress to ensure a positive, long-lasting relationship with your donors.
